We often hear about “diet” and “exercise” as factors to optimal health. The CrossFit methodology promotes nutrition as the foundation of fitness. Developed by CrossFit founder, Coach Greg Glassman, the prescription of a diet of meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar can serve as a baseline for healthy nutrition.
There are many ‘diet’ prescriptions out on the internet. While many people have success with various programs, thorough research is recommended before starting any nutrition program. The MASTERS DIVISION promotes the USDA guidelines for healthy eating. This includes clean, whole, unprocessed foods with an emphasis on the right balance of all the major macro-nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fat, etc). This balance should be prescribed and developed based on individual needs including preference, biological markers, health concerns, body composition goals (if any), and performance goals.
